Can you learn from anyone?

Hiya,

I did a tweet the other day:

"Thought for today: Imagine everyone on earth is a guardian sent to help you learn something and you're the only one really here! Interesting?"

And it got me thinking, whether you believe in guardian Angels or are an atheist or even if your jury is well and truly still out...if you just consider this as a thought experiment would it change things?

Of course we've all been influenced by and learned from our parents, our siblings, friends, neighbours, aunts and uncles etc. in some good ways and in some not so good ways - I'm sure we all remember saying something like:
"When I grow up I'm not gonna do that to my kids." - for instance.

But what about all the other people in our lives, the transient work acquaintances, the bus driver, the stranger at the coffee shop etc. Not to mention the guy who cut in on you whilst driving to work, or the kid that bullied you at school.

If for a moment you HAD to think of something you learnt from any of these people, in any of the circumstances you found yourself in with them, could you? Is it possible even NOT to learn something, I mean if you get bullied at school you learn to stay out of the way of those people, or you learn to read their body language or you learn to be funny so they don't pick on you.

I think, as we grow up we lose the ability to learn from these exchanges. yeah, the positive ones are OK - even then most people won't incorporate what they've learned into any type of positive self improvement, but the negative experiences are usually relegated to the basement filed under 'chalk up to experience'.

So my own personal challenge is to TRY and learn something from every experience good or bad - try to actually be aware that I'm searching for the lesson. Maybe I'll learn something interesting just in the looking.

Are You Trying To Be Someone You're Not?

OK - go get the tissues!

Yep, this is an inspiring and moving video of a Dog raised to be one thing who turned out to be something quite different.

It got me thinking that maybe a lot of us are trying real hard to be something when actually we should BE something quite different. Do you sometimes feel that you're doing what you're doing in order to impress someone else? Do you feel that sometimes you're not being YOU? Do you long to figure out WHO you are?

Then let this video inspire you today to take a good look at that. Take some time to be still, to be quiet, to give yourself a chance to just think and feel. Who are You? Somewhere inside you know the answer to that question and it's about time you found out the answer.

Make yourself proud and BE who you are. You only have one life someone once said, this is not a rehearsal. Start being YOU today!

And lastly I must mention I first saw this video on:

so please take the time to check that blog out - it has a lot of inspiring stuff on it, well worth a look.

Get Happy In The Now

Hiya,

We've all been on a journey right?
I bet we've all had those journeys that drag on longer than they should. Either the train is late or the plane is delayed or when you get where you're going and you grab a taxi - there's terrible traffic. Frustrating isn't it?

Have you ever set off on a journey expecting those kind of challenges in advance because, hey that always happens to you!

It happens to me. Rushing around trying to get from A to B to get everything done that day.

Funny thing though, when I go on holiday that all changes. I look forward to the journey. I take some good books on holiday so everytime there's a delay of some kind I say to myself: "Great, I can read a bit more of my book."

Dull?

Not at all, I see the journey as 'part' of the holiday so I enjoy it. As soon as I set off from my home I'm in holiday mode. Last year me and my other half went to Kefalonia - 3 hour flight. Took us 22 hours to get there including flying to an airport on a military base on the mainland, then taking a 2 hour coach journey to the coast, then a 1 hour wait for the ferry, a 2 hour ferry journey, a 1 hour wait for the next coach, then an hour and half coach journey to the final destination.

As tiring as it was it actually turned out to be a great part of the holiday. We read a lot, we met a lot of new people (amazing how easy it is to connect with people going through the same challenge), and we saw other parts of Greece we wouldn't have with a straightforward journey.

What's the point?

Life is our biggest, longest journey. Take the time to enjoy the journey rather than just being concerned with the destination.

Enjoy the journey.

Know when to give up.

Hiya,

Yeah, I know - you're not supposed to give up!

Winston Churchill once said, whilst giving advice to a hall full of University graduates:
"Never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever Give up!"

I think he was trying to say 'keep moving' - keep trying, keep working towards your dreams and goals.
But, at some point we all try things and then find either we don't really want to do that or we find that it's not as rewarding as we first thought. At this point we can decide 'well, I have to keep at it cos I'm not supposed to give up' OR 'OK, that didn't work, what else can I try?'

There is a difference.

We've all heard the saying: "There's no use flogging a dead horse!"
And trying to continue with something that simply isn't working for you or is not rewarding enough for you to keep on with is 'flogging that dead horse'.

Allow yourself to understand the difference - you'll feel it. When you wake up one day and say to yourself "I'm fed up trying this route." - go look for another route.

Whatever you do - keep moving, even if you trip or stumble you'll still be moving forward.

That to me is Not Giving Up.

What do you think?

Are You Living In A Parallel Universe?

Hiya,

Watched an interesting documentary on YouTube (link below) about the theory of parallel universes.
The concept is, at present, that our universe could be one of an infinite number of universe 'bubbles' slooshing around like a giant foam, forever multiplying in the fabric of empty space.

Where this gets interesting on a philosophical level is that IF there are an infinite number of universes there must be an infinite number of possible scenarios. One of which could be an exact replica of this universe, with an exact replica of You and of Me. In that alternate universe we could be doing completely different things. One tiny change in our circumstances or behaviour could have had massive consequences for how our lives are panning out.

Of course, if there is one possible alternate universe there must be (by definition of infinite) an infinite number of alternative universes. One where you are the president of the USA, one where you are a homeless person in Mongolia and every other version you can possibly think of. In fact every time you had the opportunity to make a decision one way or the other there would be a universe for each.

What on earth has this got to do with being inspired I hear you ask.

Well, my question today is: Why not decide TODAY which universe You want to live in? Decide today that YOU are going to create those tiny differences in your life that take you to where you could be in one universe, and make it happen in THIS universe. Wow, that means you can be and do Anything. If it's not only possible or probable but definitely happening somewhere - why not make that somewhere HERE? Make this universe the one where you succeed and get what you want and where you can BE who you want.

I don't know about you but I have a great feeling just thinking about this new possibility.
